The Hotel/Restaurant industry is one of the largest service industries in the world, and will continue to flourish as tourism picks up in the future and people have more discretionary spend. Typically, a graduate from a Hotel Mgmt course starts as a Trainee, you're given varying roles every few months in different properties of the chain where you experience all facets of the Hotel industry (procurement of food items, hiring/training support for chefs, front desk support, customer service calls, conference room duties, housekeeping etc) IMO, what being in the hotel industry teaches you (having observed my friends from the same background/experience) is what customer satisfaction really is - you'll be hard pressed to find any other where customers are as easily.
